“Wings”

It’s been a few months since I’ve written anything. This piece is one of the shortest I’ve written, spare for the haiku. 2010 was a year where I constantly found myself taking shelter under someone else’s wings, so to speak. To those of you that know me personally, you’re probably one of those people.

“Wings”

This is my thanks to those that took me under their wings,
Given me comfort whenever I felt down,
Lent me their time, wisdom, and support with many things,
Held me up when the world held me down.

No one can carry the weight of the world on their own,
No matter how hard we sometimes try.
I’ve become stronger because of the support you’ve shown,
It feels almost as if I can fly.

“What We Share”

What we share is unlike anything else,
It can’t be bought or sold, or given or taken away.
What we feel for each other can’t quite be shared between anyone else.

Many share a close bond with each other,
Many fathers are bonded just as close to their daughters,
But what we share is unique- we only share it with one another.

For eighteen years we have been split apart,
And now we’re just starting to get to know one another,
But we’re still held close to one another by what we feel deep in the heart.

Words escape me when I look into your eyes.
I forget about my worries when my hand is in yours,
And finally meeting you is more amazing that I could realize.

Tons of pics from my trip to New Mexico!

“Welcome Back”

For six long years I searched for you, and asked a lot about you,
Not sure where or how to look, or how far my search would bring me,
Not sure who I needed to ask, or what I needed to do.

I have wondered for a long time what kind of person you are,
Not sure what, or who, I could believe when I asked anyone else,
Not sure if my search for all these answers would go very far.

Now I’ve finally found you, and I can form a bond with you.
I no longer need to search, or hope that I could find you.
I no longer have to wonder where to go or what to do.

Now I see for myself what kind of person you really are,
And not rely on asking others, and hoping for the truth.
To get the answers I need I don’t need to travel so far.

The love between a man and his daughter is nike no other love.
Never again will we be separated from each other.
Welcome back to my life- you will always have my deepest love.

“Another Chance”

Sometimes in life we don’t make good decisions,
And then it haunts us for a long time to come.
Sometimes around others we have collisions,
And we don’t always try to solve the problem.

Sometimes we’re misguided and steered the wrong way
When we let others make decisions for us.
Sometimes there are things we never do or say,
And we don’t always forgive one another.

Instead of being pulled down by our mistakes,
We can learn from and avoid repeating them.
This can rid us of many of our heartaches,
And make opportunities to teach others.

Though it doesn’t always seem easy on first glance,
Sometimes the best gift we can give others is another chance.

“What You Are”

Your hand seems to fit perfectly around mine,
Your arms seem to fit perfectly around me,
Your smile is the one that puts me on cloud nine,
Your eyes are the ones that can hypnotize me.

Your every word is what puts my mind to rest,
Your heartbeat is what makes my heart jump and race,
You being here with me makes me feel so blesseed,
Your gentle touch goes so well with your embrace.

Your voice is what reverberates in my dreams,
Your hand holding mine makes every day bright,
My heart now belongs held in your hands, it seems,
Your love makes everything feel so great and right.

You are the one that is always on my mind,
You are the one that I dream of every night,
You are the sweetest companion I can find,
You’re the one I never want out of my sight.

“The Right Words”

I can’t always find the right words
To tell you how you make me feel.
They always seem to escape me,
How I feel about you is real.

My heart doesn’t just skip a beat when I’m with you,
It races, skips a beat or two, then races more.
While my heart races around my mind is at rest,
You being here to hold me warms me to the core.

I’m hypnotized by your sweet smile,
My eyes cannot escape your glance.
I love being in your embrace,
I stay whenever there’s a chance.

I stumble when you ask what I’m thinking about,
I know what I feel but the words aren’t always there,
I cherish every moment that I share with you,
And I love you more than words can truly declare.

“Here We Are”

Here we are, hand in hand, walking across the shore,
I see the stars in your eyes and my spirit soars,
A quick glance at your smile makes it soar even more.

Here we are, arm in arm, just wandering around,
I only hear your voice, there are no other sounds,
To every word you say my ears are tightly bound.

Here we are, side by side, as evening turns to night,
The salty sea’s smell prevails over dimming light,
Outside it’s dark, but this moment can’t be more bright.

Here we are, under the moonlight, just you and me,
In your embrace I’m as happy as I can be,
I’m safely wrapped in the warmth of you holding me.

Here we are, under the stars, night finding its end,
Just beginning is the time together we’ll spend,
The taste of each kiss surrounds my mind with no end.

“Comfort”

I find comfort in having you nearby,
Sharing so many awesome times with you,
No matter where we go or what we do,
I always feel great when you are nearby.

I find comfort in your delicate hold,
Close enough to warm me inside and out,
Gentle enough that I never want out,
It feels just right in the heat or the cold.

I find comfort in whatever you say,
Whether serious or joking around,
Your voice puts me at ease when I feel down,
Or when I feel great it sweeps me away.

I find comfort in hearing your heartbeat,
As I rest my head softly on your chest,
That soft beat puts my mind and soul to rest,
And makes my time with you even more sweet.

I find comfort in everything with you,
How my hand seems to fit just right in yours,
How my body fits just right in your arms,
My eyes are trapped when they look into yours,
Everything feels so right when I’m with you.

“The Blobs of Gray Theory”

When we were younger we looked up to others,
For wisdom, guidance, and hope.
We looked up to parents, sisters, or brothers,
Or sometimes people who don’t really exist.

We bought costumes of our favorite superheroes,
Quoted some of their most famous phrases,
Collected books and movies about them, filling rows
And rows of shelf space in our rooms.

We ate our idols’ favorite snacks,
Dressed like them, spoke like them, obsessed over them,
Sketched pictures of them, each day adding to the stacks,
Showing off what we knew about them, but our friends didn’t.

We often bring this tendency with us as we grow.
We still look up to others for ideas,
For answers to questions we don’t yet know,
For opinions on anything that comes to mind.

Many of us dress like our friends at the lunch table,
Or the “popular” people in school.
We want that same “popular” label.
We want to fit in and be looked up to.

When does this conformity go too far?
When are we too much like others, not enough like ourselves?
When to we look up too much to a superstar?
When do we lose sight of who and what we are?

When we look up too much to others,
When we try too hard to be someone else,
When we forget what makes os special and unlike others,
We are reduced to little blobs of gray.

Once this happens, how are we to tell
One simple blob of gray from another?
How could we tell when everyone starts to look and smell
And talk and dress and act the same?

What would happen to art,
Which we base on individual creativity?
How could anyone stand apart
From others in their unique way?

There’s nothing wrong with looking up to others,
But we must not conform too much to others’ molds.
We must not create the gray that smothers
Anything that is different, when we all are meant to be different.
